MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT

The overall goal of the Mathematics Department at Pathfinder is to teach our students to be able to problem solve in high school and beyond.  We follow the Massachusetts State Frameworks and use its “Standards for Mathematical Practice” to deliver our content in a manner that is consistent with other schools across the state.  While taking math courses at Pathfinder students will learn to:

  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
  4. Model with mathematics.
  5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
  6. Attend to precision.
  7. Look for and make use of structure.
  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Pathfinder provides a robust program of essential academic coursework to ensure students’ readiness upon graduation to pursue an array of career pathways, as well as prepare students to be successful, independent members of society. Beyond core offerings in English, mathematics, science, and social studies, Pathfinder students may also elect accounting, health and wellness, and foreign language options. In addition to traditional college and career readiness driven academic courses, students may engage in Honors, Advanced Placement, and Dual Enrollment opportunities.

Pathfinder offers a wide range of vocational technical programs. We have expanded our offerings to include 15 unique programs. These exciting programs give students a competitive advantage both in college and in the workforce. Our programs are designed to help students create and follow pathways to a career of their choice.  Pursue your passion and enjoy your education!

The Cooperative Education Program at Pathfinder is an optional experience for seniors and juniors (second half of the school year) having a minimum 1,000 hours in their technical area. Through a cooperative arrangement between the school and employer, the student will receive job placement related to their technical area of study during their “shop week” with wages paid by the employer. To be eligible, a student must have the recommendation of their technical program teachers, meet the required grade, attendance, and discipline standards. The student must also have their OSHA 10-hour card. Some technical areas may require additional certifications prior to entering the program.
